How about dying, go back and get another tree, plant it, then go back to where you died and loot your grave?

Yeah that does work but it is only temporary.

And you would only be able to plant 2 trees at a time because when u plant the second tree, you need to go back to ur grave (leave your house) and pick up another tree and re-enter your house to find that one tree has deleted itself because if you leave your house/logout while two trees are in your house, one deletes.

I went and tried doing it with the new Halloween outfits and it didn't work. :[
Worked with the tree's for me though.

The thing is that the duplicated Wintumber Trees technically don't exist, and will fade on logout like almost all smuggled items.
Finding a way to keep the multiples would be something totally new (in my book at least), and may allow you to do the same with smuggled items.
Hence it being borderline impossible. Then again, bugging communities like this constantly deny and redefine impossible. So good luck.

Is there still a way to get a wintumber tree if you don't have one? I remember with the old wintumber tree glitch peoeple who didn't have one could get one. >.>

I'm sure there could be another way.

You'd get people in when building mode was on, and everyone would dig it up at the same time. It would dupe one tree, and people who didn't normally have one would get one.
