A Second Opinion

This thread is very serious and I honestly need your guys's help. This is not a joke or for attention, I really need your guys's honest, true, opinions.

I think I have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).

GAD is defined as "excessive, exaggerated anxiety and worry about everyday life events. People with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder tend to always expect disaster and can't stop worrying about health, money, family, work or school. In people with GAD, the worry often is unrealistic or out of proportion for the situation. Daily life becomes a constant state of worry, fear and dread. Eventually, the anxiety so dominates the person's thinking that it interferes with daily functioning, including work, school, social activities and relationships."

Do you ever get nervous when you have to do a presentation in front of your classmates? If you do you understand that nervous fealing and how much it dawns on you. I feal this constantly, I always feal nervous as if something bad will happen, I will do something wrong, or I will get hurt. I feal like I cannot concentrate or think properly. My stomach always has that "butterfly"
fealing. Even when I went on winter vacation I was anxious and stressed about school though I was out of school for the following three weeks.

The Symptoms listed for GAD are:

Excessive, ongoing worry and tension
An unrealistic view of problems
Restlessness or a feeling of being "edgy"
Irritability
Muscle tension
Headaches
Sweating
Difficulty concentrating
Nausea
The need to go to the bathroom frequently
Tiredness
Trouble falling or staying asleep
Trembling
Being easily startled

I can honestly say I fall into about 90% of those categories. The problem is I don't know what to do about it. It says to see a doctor and he might perscribe you medication or refer you to a psycologist. But im not even sure I have it. I want to tell my parents but I don't think they would take me very seriously. Thats why I am asking you guys, do you think I have GAD? Should I or how should I tell my parents.

Thank you for spending your time reading this, and I appreciate any
help or advice you can give me.

I doubt if anyone here knows you well enough to tell diagnose a condition they've never heard of.

You really shouldn't take advice from kids you've never met online.

But, since you took all this time to write this and I know how aggravating it can be when people give you exactly what you weren't looking for in a thread, here is my opinion.

I don't know if you have it or not. I'll never be able to know without more information.
SO
What I suggest is that you do go get help from someone, don't tell your parents just yet unless you're really tight with them. Even if you don't have the condition, it's really unhealthy to be worrying about it all the time. If you have a school councilor or a REALLY good friend to talk to who will take you seriously about it, you should probably sit down and talk to them and get their opinion because: your friend knows you well, and the councilor is a trained professional. I don't see how you can go wrong. I know how hard it is to gather the courage to get some help. I've had problems of my own, but this thread is about you. Talking to a councilor is worth it. Trust me.

I really hope you can solve your issues so I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose ;)

You are so very welcome,
TheGopher

I don't think worrying about a class presentation or worrying about school in general would signal a disorder. For one thing, I'm also always nervous when waiting to present. This can easily be avoided by going first. Also, the nervous feeling can be avoided by doing something that distracts you from it, such as listening to the radio/music, talking to friends etc.

And yeah, indeed school stresses anyone out, specifically to those people who care about it. It seems these days, not many are taking it seriously, but I see you are taking it into consideration. Do you have a lot of work and you complete it late? Or do you worry about your grades? If you answer to yes to these or any alternate versions of the question, then it is pretty normal.
I'm quite nervous right now actually, cause its 4:30 AM and I'm still finishing up a 5-7 page research paper.

Im not worried about a presentation, I was just using that nervous fealing as an example. Thank you for replying though.

[HIDE=714]This is probably the worst advice you can ever get, but....
DRUGS

i'm not even kidding.
i was in terrible shape earlier this year, and to get my mind off of things and to help re-establish the way i view things, i just did drugs. i did drugs from sometime in september through november, and have since done none. with the exception of a few cigarettes

Of course i'm not saying go out and do drugs (actually i am), but rather do something that can take your mind off of things (like drugs).

I've done the "drug reformation" twice in my life, both times i have completely changed myself for the better.... much better
the important part is to be able to just stop though

And for all you haters... don't flamezor me. i'm just telling what i did in a simmilar situation.[/HIDE]
