The Glow Affect

Do you ever have dull Looking Pictures that need a little glow? well here is a tut that does just that.

Starting picture


First up open Photoshop with your picture



Use Lab Color
For this affect we will have to use Lab color. Go to Image > Mode > Lab Color.



Everything should still look the same. You should have the same layer and you shouldn't notice any color shifts.Well if you look in the Channels palette, we now have access to the individual Lightness, a, or b channels. We'll be using the b channel specifically for this tutorial and that is why we need to use Lab color mode.

Now make a new layer.
We are going to place one of the channels onto the layer so go
Image > Apply Image. and this should pop up. Make it look like mine.



You should get something like this



This is normal now Change the Blending of the layer to Overlay and you should get this


But this is a bit too hard so lower the opacity to 50% and you should get your final product



Now doesn't that look a lot better!
