I believe it was too, but the weight of the towers from the top could cause the bottom frame to buckle.

There's actually a scientific phenomenon to explain this. I just can't remember it, but I learned in architect class :P.

The center beam was knocked out or something like that and the center beam is supposed to hold the building up straight and since it lost that, it caved in and BOOM so did everything else.
